After a flying start to their respective Premier League campaigns, Brighton and Leeds will try to build on the momentum when the sides meet in a Premier League Saturday afternoon affair at the Amex Stadium. After making their best finish in Premier League history last season, Graham Potter’s Brighton have been in the ascendency picking up wins again Manchester United and Brighton. On the other hand, Leeds United come on the back of a historic 3-0 win over Chelsea last weekend. Which of these two unbeaten sides do top football betting tips experts believe are more likely to suffer their first Premier League defeat of the season?
Brighton
West Ham did not let Brighton take more than two shots on target, but those were enough for the visitors to condemn David Moyes’s West Ham to a 2-0 victory. The referee pointed towards the spot after Thilo Kehrer brought down Danny Welbeck inside the box. Alexis Mac Allister made no mistake to convert the penalty. Against the run of play in the second half, Leandro Trossard made the most out of a Pascal Groß flick to make the score 2-0.
Brighton took advantage of the few chances they got against West Ham and continued their impressive run of form in the Premier League. The Seagulls’ last Premier League defeat came eight matches ago, which stretches back to last season. This is the longest unbeaten streak in the Premier League for Brighton, and they will be eager to extend it when they play Leeds on Saturday.
Brighton boss Graham Potter will retain his faith in the midfield duo of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo. Caicedo is reportedly drawing interest from some big names in the Premier League, but Potter will expect his head to be in the game. Deniz Undav opened his account for Brighton by scoring against Football League One side Forest Green in the EFL Cup. It might not be enough to displace Danny Welbeck from the starting XI, but the German striker will hope for more minutes against Leeds. Jeremy Sarmiento is still probably a week away from regaining full fitness, whereas Jakub Moder will not return to the fold before the year ends.
Leeds
Jesse Marsch was thrilled to see his side dismantling a Chelsea team that had won the Champions League only two seasons ago. Leeds might rely on their attacking brand of football to snatch the points away from Brighton. But, the South Coast trip has not been a favourable one to take for Leeds in recent years.
The Yorkshire outfit have been winless at the Amex Stadium since their return to the Premier League in the 2020/21 season. They have to go back as far as 2009 to search for their last win at the arena when both sides were playing lower league football.
After his big-money move from Valencia in 2020, Rodrigo has finally started to show his scoring prowess for Leeds. The Spain international has fired in four goals in three outings so far and will be Marsch’s ace of spades going into the tie. USMNT youngsters Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams have also been excellent for Leeds and will hope to carry on their excellent form to steer Leeds to another victory. Stuart Dallas will not return before the turn of the year. Liam Cooper and Patrick Bamford are nearing full fitness. The latter might have to sit on the bench even if he’s fully fit, considering Rodrigo’s red-hot form. The match will come too soon for Junior Firpo and Luke Ayling.
Our Prediction
Both Brighton and Leeds have reasons to be confident ahead of the game. However, we will favour the home side to edge the visitors because of their better defensive structure and home ground advantage. We expect a close match, but the spoils will go to Brighton in the end. We call a 2-1 win for the home side.
