After sharing the spoils in their respective Premier League gameweek 2 fixtures, Tottenham and Wolves will continue their Premier League campaigns at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a Saturday lunchtime affair. Antonio Conte’s Tottenham snatched a point away from London rivals Chelsea with a 96th-minute Harry Kane equalizer. Wolves produced another underwhelming attacking display as they were held to a goalless draw by Fulham at home. Are the top football betting tips experts expecting Bruno Lage’s men to register their first win of the season in North London? Or do they think the Lilywhites will keep up their winning run at home?
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham seemed destined to return empty-handed from their Stamford Bridge trip as the scoreline read 2-1 in the 95th minute. With seconds left on the clock, Harry Kane found the back of the net and grabbed a point for his team. After the match, the managers got into a heated confrontation and got sent off by the referee. So, Antonio Conte will not be in the dugout during the Wolves game.
Once cooler heads prevailed, both Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte might have rued their belligerent behaviour. Conte, however, would be happy to see the fight his team put on despite being on the back foot for prolonged periods. Tottenham were not in their opening day highs when they demolished Southampton, but still, they managed to get something against a formidable Chelsea side.
After their summer arrivals, neither Richarlison nor Ivan Perišić started a game for Spurs. The latter might get his full Spurs debut against Wolves as the 33-year-old produced a host of chances after coming on for Ryan Sessegnon, who did not have one of his best games in a Spurs shirt. Ivan Perišić might get rewarded with a start for his impressive cameo against the Blues. Clément Lenglet will be available for selection after recovering from his adductor problem. Oliver Skipp will be ruled out with a heel fracture, but he’s nearing a return.
Wolves
Jose Sa kept out a late Aleksandar Mitrović penalty to keep the scoreline 0-0 at the Molineux Stadium. While that brought Wolves their first point of the season, it stretched their worrying winless run to nine games.
It has been the attack that has been the most problematic area for Wolves. In both of their matches against Leeds and Fulham, Wolves enjoyed more than 60% possession. But, they could only keep one of their attempts on target in both matches. Wolves’ dismal form in front of the goal has been plaguing them since last season. While they boasted the fifth-best defensive record in the Premier League in 21/22, they managed to score only 38 goals that season; only three teams had worse records in the division. Tottenham away has been one of the favourable fixtures for the club since their Premier League promotion in 2018. Since then, Wolves returned victorious three times from Tottenham’s ground, including their last time visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, a repetition of that result on Saturday would require a much improved attacking performance from the West Midlands outfit.
The absence of Raúl Jiménez has been one of the key reasons for Wolves’ underperforming attack. But, the Mexican international might not return to action before September as he recovers from an MCL strain. Portuguese winger Chiquinho could miss the entire season following a knee surgery. João Moutinho has returned to training and might be fit enough to make the squad. Bruno Lages could hand Gonçalo Guedes his full Wolves debut replacing South Korea international Hwang Hee-chan.
Our Prediction
Tottenham succeeded in scoring twice against one of the best defences in the league last weekend. The Spurs attackers will face another daunting challenge when they play Wolves at home. But the home support paired with the incredible quality Spurs have up top might culminate in another win on the home soil for the North London club. We say 2-0 for Tottenham.
